Cutting edge designs and concepts from a Yorkshire based family business
Leading food industry specialist Penmann Climatic Systems Ltd designs and implements bespoke process cooling, air conditioning and ventilation solutions for many of the UK’s most significant and well respected food and drinks brands.
This Yorkshire based family run business is understandably proud of a 43 year track record of achievement and innovation in the food and drinks sectors, which has seen the growth and retention of an important portfolio of blue chip clients with manufacturing installations located throughout the UK.
Traditional Yorkshire business values
Traditional Yorkshire values and ways of doing business have built strong foundations for the reputation of the company which is recognised for its honesty, reliability and transparency in all dealings, with clients, suppliers and contractors alike. Not to mention a straight talking and down to earth approach.
Gearing up to support clients
With tradition playing a major part in establishing the reputation of the business, now a new and emerging culture is making its mark as the business gears up to service the demands of food and drink manufacturers where a competitive edge can pay significant dividends. Extensive leadership and growth programmes within the company are designed to foster a forward looking progressive culture of responsiveness and innovation in the way Penmann does business, characterised by confidence in their abilities and pride in their achievements.
Innovation is key
Penmann’s innovative and effective product cooling solutions do not simply rely on existing technology. As a specialist and dedicated provider their inhouse design team always seeks a new concept or scheme to achieve the best possible outcome. A standard client brief is met with the response: ‘Is there a better way?’ With a thorough understanding of the industry and the needs of their clients, Penmann’s contribution often draws praise and great testimonials
Put simply, Penmann is ‘good at the difficult’. They are experts in working in existing live facilities to get the best performance out of existing systems and infrastructure, in addition to the specification and installation of new systems.
“We found Penmann to have an excellent understanding not only of air conditioning and refrigeration but also of the production process and the logistics that surround it. All timescales were achieved, and the systems are working well. I would have no hesitation in recommending Penmann to others.” David Underdown, Director, Rachels Dairy
The Penmann Team
Brothers Damian and John Kirwin are at the helm of the business started in 1976 by their Father. They have a policy of Director level involvement at all stages of the client relationship. With their 42 years of experience and accumulated knowledge they are backed by a stable team imbued with the same values of creativity and customer service.
Out in the field, preferred contractors employed by Penmann have often partnered with the business over a long number of years. These experienced site personnel are paid on an hourly rate (not fixed fee) so they take their time to get the job done correctly. Getting it right means that call backs are almost unheard of.
Delivering for the future
Penmann has justifiably earned the trust and respect of their clients, never letting them down, delivering on time and on budget. A new set of dynamics is in place and there is high optimism throughout the business as the company gears up to add new market sectors and new clients. The future is looking bright for this niche business.

“I would highly recommend Penmann to others. They were engaged to eliminate a condensation problem we had in our pasta production area, and to design and install an extract canopy and all services to a new pasta cook quench chill system.” “Penmann were very professional in how they approached the design and how they interfaced with the CQC supplier, undertaking the project in a seamless manner and to a very high standard. The condensation problem has been removed and the CQC canopy and services are performing excellently.”
- Neil Greenfield, Engineering Controller, Greencore Warrington -
“Penmann were able to offer a flexible approach to both design and contracting backed by excellent Health & Safety planning and implementation. We were more than happy with the professional manner with which they carried out the contract and would be only too pleased to recommend them to others.”
- Phil Griffiths, Engineering Manager McVities Manchester -
“I have nothing but praise for the Penmann team, how they approached and managed these projects and the results they delivered. In terms of customer service, Andy Hinch, Design and Project Engineer, is the best I’ve worked with, constantly communicating and paying site visits more than we had anticipated and certainly beyond the contractual terms. These improvements in automation on our lines have the potential to save us in the region of £90K per annum. Would I recommend Penmann to other UK food producers? Absolutely”.
